Who We Are

OUR JOURNEY

How We Got To Where We Are Today

OUR HISTORY

Hope Universal’s call to help suffering children was birthed in Sierra Leone, West Africa in the 1990’s during one of the most brutal civil wars known to man. The children of this nation suffered greatly during this time, so much so that the United Nations declared Sierra Leone to be the worst place in the world for a child to live. After the war ended in 2002, Hope Universal was established, and began ministering to this nation with a large focus being placed on children, starting in refugee camps first. Over the next 10 years the ministry grew in size and scope, and ministry initiatives included medical clinics, water well projects, counseling, evangelism, Bible schools, leadership training and micro-finance projects, along with the children’s ministries.

Hope Universal also established ministries in Liberia with an early focus of ministry to ex-child soldiers, who lived in refugee camps after the civil war. As the refugee camps disbanded, the ministry efforts grew in scope, and included establishment of Christian community groups, medical clinics, leadership training seminars, plus a number of other initiatives.

Transition

In 2014, after much prayer and deliberation, the leadership of Hope Universal voted to start working through implementing partners who were already established on the field, rather than setting up new Hope Universal branches internationally. This has allowed us to further God’s work worldwide in a more efficient way, rather than using resources and manpower to duplicate work already being carried out by trusted partners.

WHO WE ARE TODAY

Since 2014 Hope Universal has partnered with ministries worldwide who focus on providing care for orphans, children at risk, and widows in need. Through our implementing partners, we are helping people around the globe find God’s love. Our implementing partners are serving in Sierra Leone, Liberia, China, India, Philippines, Honduras, Haiti, Kenya, Thailand, and many other countries. Our goal is to reach as much of the world as possible, and we can do this more effectively by partnering with people who have the same desire.
